Midhat Pasha was given the task of halting revolt in Rumania, Balkans, and proved successful in 1854. He also was successful in restoring order in Bulgaria in 1857.
Midhat Pasha was the Governor of Baghdad in 1859, Grand Vizier in 1872 for a brief period and again made the Grand Vizier in 1876 but was dismissed after a few months.
In 1881 Midhat Pasha was arrested, charged guilty for the death of the deposed Sultan Abdul Aziz and was sentenced to death.
Midhat Pasha, who was a great nationalist, was later on commuted to life banishment.
