Nazia a singer of nasal quality and rare expressiveness pioneered the disco revolution in the Indian sub-continent film music and in young British Asians pop scene in the 1980s. She shot into prominence in her successful album, Disco Deewane (1981) with its racy songs and harmonious blend of eastern rhythms and western beats, which remained number one for more than a year.
Nazia was born in Karachi, Pakistan in a well to do family and came to London as a teenager. She died of lung cancer in London.
