|Biographical detail : || The Arab prince, geographer and historian, best known for his Taqwim Al Buldan.
He was born at Damascus and was a descendent of Ayub, father of the great Saladin. In 1310 he was appointed Governor of Hamah by Mamluk Sultan Malik al Nasir.
Authored Mukhtasir Tarik Al Bashar a history book extending from the creation of the world till 1327 which was translated into Latin, French and English.
He should not be confused with Yaqut al Hamwi the author of Mujam al Baldan whose surname was also Hamwi.
