Suyti was a teacher in Baybars mosque in Cairo in 1486. In 1501, he tried to reduce the stipends of some scholars at the mosque. A revolt broke out and after his trial he was put under house arrest.
Suyti was the author of about 300 works, Tafsir al Jalalyan, a commentary on the Qur’an and Al-Itqan fi Ulum al Qur’an were well known works, Tarikh al Khulafa was translated into English, AL Muzahir fi Ulum al Lughah was an encyclopaedia of Arabic language and Jama us Saghir was the collection of Traditions.
