Biographical Data :

Name :Titumir
Period :1782 - 1831
Biographical detail : A disciple of Syed Ahmad Barelvi, who founded the Tariqah-Muhammadia a revivalist movement of Islam.

Titu Mir began preaching in Bengal in late 1820's and won the support of the peasants as he opposed the oppressive ruling class (the Hindu landlords of Bengal). But when he rose against the British government and took control of three districts of Bengal, his supporters were crushed by the British troops in 1831. But his movement mobilised and Islamized Bengali Muslims and helped create a separate identity from Bengali Hindus.
