Osman Pasha became a national hero of the Turks when he defeated the Russians who crossed the Danube, at Pleven (Bulgaria) in 1877-78, and earned the title of “Ghazi”.
Osman Pasha served in the Crimean War (1853-56) and in the suppression of insurrection in Yemen in 1871. He also fought in Lebanon (1860) and Crete (1866-69). He was promoted to Field Marshal after he defeated the Serbs in 1876.
Osman Noori Pasha also served as minister of defence for four times.
