|Biographical detail : || The Egyptian jurist who drafted the modern civil codes of various Arab countries and tried to reinvigorate the Shariah in the light of contemporary developments.
He proposed modernisation of Islamic law and was responsible for revisions of the Egyptian and Iraqi codes, enacted in 1949 and 1951 respectively. His codes drafted for Egypt and Iraq was adopted with some modifications by Syria, Libya and Jordan. His work on Islamic law is the main reference for the Islamic world.
He authored Le Califat: Son Evolution Vers Une Societe Des Nations Orientale.
