Asrar Hasan Khan wellknown by his penname Majrooh Sultanpuri was part of the 1950s golden era that established songs as a significant idiom of Indian cinema. He composed several thousand songs in several hundred films. He also wrote two major collections of Urdu poetry.
Majrooh Sultanpuri was awarded with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award by the president of India in 1993.
Majrooh Sultanpuri, born Asrar Hasan Khan, died in Bombay.
