Aurangzeb Khan adopted Qateel Shifai as his pen name in 1938. He published over 20 collections of verse apart from over 2,500 songs for Pakistani and Indian films. His poetry has been translated in Hindi, Gujrati, English, Russian and Chinese.
Qateel Shifai was the recipient of Pride of Performance award (1994) for his contribution to literature, Adamjee, Naqoosh and Abbasin Arts Council awards and Amir Khusro Award in India.
Qateel Shifai was born Aurangzeb Khan in Haripur, Hazara, Pakistan and died in Lahore.
