Fakhruddin united the Druze and Maronite districts and was known as the father of modern Lebanon. He was a Druze-Muslim and had the support of Christian minorities of northern Lebanon.
The Ottoman recognised his authority in 1607, but forced him into exile during 1614 -18. After his return he tried to dominate Syria, Palestine and Lebanon but the Ottomans captured and executed him in 1634.
