|Biographical detail : ||A nationalist Somali leader who fought against the Italians, British and Ethiopian colonial forces in Somali land.
During a pilgrimage to Makkah, he joined the Salihyiah order and after returning to Somalia, he urged for the expulsion of the English colonists and in 1899 declared Jihad on them. By 1905, after fighting four times, in which he remained undefeated against the British, Italians and Ethiopians, he was forced to sign a peace treaty. In 1913 he gained a major victory against the British, but was defeated by them in 1920.
The British gave him the title of the Mad Mullah.
