Biographical detail : He belonged to the Kindi tribe.

Ibn Al Ash was famous for his revolt against the Governor of Iraq, al Hajjaj in 699 701. He was, however, defeated in a final battle in 701 by the superior army of caliph Abd-al-Malik Ibn Marwan, who had initially offered governorship to ibn al Ashath, an offer that was not accepted.

Ibn Al Ashath took refuge in Kabur, where he was murdered.
