Kara was educated at Cairo and he came to Istanbul in 1908. He was active as a journalist during the Turkish war of independence in 1919-22.
Kara’s first collection of short stories was published in 1913, Hukum Gacesi in 1927 and Sodam Ve Gomor in 1928. The novel The Stranger 1932, was about the distance between the peasant and the intellectual apart from certain non-fiction works. He has been called ‘The great old man of Turkish Prose.’
