Asylum seekers per 1000 Populace
Above we can see that most EU countries have a very low percentage of
asylum seekers. The UK in particular is low having just less than one asylum
seeker per thousand people.
Detention Length of Stay March 2002
Asylum seekers are only kept in detention if there is a valid fear
that they might run away. The statistics show that 1,370 persons are
kept in detention centres of whom 1,185 are male and 185 are female.
