" And in the alteration of night and day, and the fact that Allah sends down sustenance from the sky, and revives therewith the earth after its death, and in the change of the winds, are signs for those that are wise. Such are the signs of Allah, which we rehearse to thee in truth: then in what exposition will they believe after Allah and his signs? "
<Qur'an-Jathiya 45:5-6>

" Say: Travel through the earth and see how Allah originated creation; so will Allah produce the second creation (of the Afterlife): for Allah has power over all things."<Qur'an-Ankabut 29:20>

"...Allah will raise up to (suitable) ranks (and degrees) those of you who believe and who have been granted knowledge."
<Qur'an-Mujadila 58:11>

There are plenty of references to pursuit of knowledge and the duty to try to understand His world in the Qur'an. Know your creation, you will know your creator. The possessor of knowledge or wisdom has been given a very powerful gift, and that the pursuit of knowledge is something which should be done actively by everyone. Allah (SW) made us" agents, inheritors of the earth" and consequently of the seas. In order to protect and to discover the world of God, we need more Muslims to be involved with the "nature field".

The ocean can be studied in many ways, and the science of oceanography includes many specialties. To become an oceanographer, a person needs a background in science and mathematics. Solid knowledge of at least one basic science, such as biology, chemistry, geology, or physics, is required. In college, oceanography courses help an undergraduate student learn how the basic sciences apply to the study of the ocean. However, most future oceanographers acquire detailed knowledge about the ocean through graduate training. Some of them will go on lengthy research expeditions or make deep-sea dives. Others may also work with computers in an attempt to recreate, analyze, and predict ocean behavior.Here are some exemples of careers :

  • Physical oceanographers study waves, tides, currents, and the action of the ocean and the atmosphere on each other.
  • Chemical oceanographers deal with the chemicals in seawater and the chemical reactions that occur in the ocean.
  • Biological oceanographers and marine biologists study marine life, from microscopic bacteria to large marine mammals.
  • Ocean engineers design oceanographic research tools and develop methods for obtaining minerals and other resources from the sea.
  • Marine geologists mainly study the sediments and surface features of the ocean bottom.
  • Marine geophysicists deal with the deeper oceanic crust. Marine geologists and marine geophysicists analyze the form and composition of the sea floor, as well as the forces that shape the ocean floor.

Research jobs are available at colleges and universities, at oceanographic institutions, in the government, and in industry laboratories. Colleges and universities also provide teaching opportunities.
