Published by Beacon books, Dr Shamim Miah’s work ably introduces the life and ideas of the founding father of sociology to a broader audience.

“This book does not intend to add anything new to the existing study of Khaldunian scholarship, instead, it aims to provide an introduction that will give students and the general reader an insight into the dynamic life and work of Ibn Khaldun. It was in part an outcome of my own frustrations during my doctoral studies in trying to locate an introductory text that would function as a stepping stone to his more serious academic works. Furthermore, this book intends to focus on a hitherto neglected area of Ibn Khaldun studies, as it concentrates on three key areas, namely: epistemology (theory of knowledge), education (especially pedagogy); politics and sociology (or theory of society).”
Dr Shamim Miah is Senior Lecturer at the School of Education, University of Huddersfield. He has authored three books: Muslims, Schooling and the Question of Self-Segregation; Muslims and the Question of Security and most recently (co-authored) Race, Space and Multiculturalism in Northern England.
