17 June 2025 The Casey Audit

Statement from Dr Wajid Akhter, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain,

“The Muslim Council of Britain welcomes the Prime Minister’s announcement of a statutory inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and stands firmly with the victims of these horrific crimes.

We urge that the inquiry address the full scope of CSE, including but not limited to group-based exploitation, which accounts for approximately 3.5% of total cases. A narrow focus risks distorting the true scale and nature of this national crisis and may undermine trust in the inquiry’s intent.[. . .] We are committed to working with all communities and authorities to identify and eliminate those who perpetrate these crimes.

While we unequivocally support the victims, we also stand with communities that have been unfairly demonised because of the actions of a criminal minority. Those who use these tragedies to advance political agendas do a disservice to the victims, encourage hatred against minorities, and hinder meaningful solutions. Addressing CSE demands unity and evidence-led policies, not scapegoating or fearmongering.”
