2 March 2026 Community-based politics in action in Harrow

“We are a progressive movement, we are a people of action.”

“There are no safe seats for Labour any more.”

“People are struggling in Harrow and we need change.”

Freshly registered as a political party, Arise’s prospective councillor candidates for the local elections in the London Borough of Harrow on 7th May set out their agenda at a packed meeting held near North Harrow station late on Sunday 1st March.

Since the last council election in 2022, the borough has been Conservative-controlled, holding 31 of the the 55 seats. The Labour Party has 23 councillors and 1 seat held by an independent. .

For the 2026 election, Arise is putting up 11 candidates in 8 of Harrows 22 wards, with an agreement with the Green Party to avoid competition. The aim is to form one block with the Greens in Council. Three hopefuls standing for the Marlborough ward are Asha Mohammed (image above),together with Arise’s leader, Pamela Fitzpatrick and the pro-Palestine activist, Sheila Guhadasan. Other candidates are Aghileh Djafari-Marbini and Paul Crimins (Wealdstone South); Kirsten Perkin, Farid Mall and Yahya Sirhan (Roxeth); Faran Khan and Dante Karjov (Wealdstone South); Amaan Choudhury (Headstone).

Entrenched interests are being challenged by a new cohort seeking a better deal locally for the disadvantaged and marginalised, and also prepared to speak for the dispossessed beyond these shores.

Arise’s distinguishing feature are its strong local roots with Asha Mohammed for example residing and working in the borough for more than 30 years engaged in charity and community work..
